Why Should I Get My Skydiving License?
You may be wondering, “I’ve already done a tandem skydive, why would I need a skydiving license?” Community, confidence, travel, FUN… the list goes on! Let me tell you all the reasons why you should become a Licensed Skydiver by earning your United States Parachute Association (USPA) A-License.
The Journey to Jumping Solo
The main reason for getting a license is so that you can jump on your own without an Instructor. Skydiving can be intimidating, and building freefall and canopy piloting skills on the way to getting your USPA A-License is sure to give you a confidence boost. At Skydive Utah, we follow the USPA’s Integrated Student Program for teaching Accelerated Freefall, or AFF. This program provides a structured learning environment where you can push your own personal limits guided by our expert Instructors.
Personal Goal Achievement
Setting and achieving personal goals floods our brains with dopamine, making us feel motivated and self-fulfilled, and gives us more self-confidence. After earning your initial USPA A-License, you can progress through different levels of skydiving licenses (USPA B-, C-, and D-Licenses), which gives you access to more advanced techniques and equipment in skydiving. To earn each of these licenses, you must complete certain freefall and canopy piloting skills, water-landing training, written exams, and other requirements.
Travel the World and Make Friends Along the Way
USPA licensed skydivers can jump at different drop zones around the world. Once you earn your skydiving license and have your own gear, the sky is (literally) the limit. Check off more than just visiting exotic destinations from your bucket list… Jump in to them! Skydiving is a tight-knit community and if you visit another drop zone, you can be sure that you will make friends wherever you go. You already have one thing common with everyone at the drop zone… SKYDIVING!
The Freedom of Flight
Like many other extreme sports, you may be drawn to skydiving because of the initial rush of adrenaline, but after experiencing the freedom of flight, you stay for the flow state you get from the absolute mental focus required for this activity. It’s a misconception that skydivers are “adrenaline-junkies” that only do this sport because it’s seemingly dangerous. Ask any skydiver who’s been around for a while: they’ll tell you they are the most relaxed while they are skydiving versus any other activity they do!
Become an Instructor and Share Your Passion for Skydiving
You know what they say… the best way to learn is by teaching others. USPA offers 4 licenses. After earning your A-License, you can progress to your B-License, which allows you to be a USPA Coach and help mentor student skydivers. After earning your B-License, you can progress to your C-License, which allows you to become a USPA AFF/IAD/Static Line Instructor and teach others how to solo skydive. After earning your C-License, you can progress to your D-License, which allows you to become a USPA Tandem Instructor and share the joy of flight with first-time skydivers.
